We offer a full range of general dental treatments to help you achieve your best oral health.
We ensure that we take the time to discuss all treatment options and allow you to make an informed decision for your dental needs and ensure you are comfortable and in control of your dental treatment.

Check ups and general dental treatment
Regular dental check-ups help to prevent dental decay and gum disease. It helps to identify any problems whilst they are small and prevent them becoming major issues. We generally recommend most people to have a check-up twice a year.
At your regular check-up, the dentist will ask you about your teeth and comprehensively examine your teeth, gums and surrounding oral structures. From this examination a treatment plan tailored to your needs can be formulated where all treatment options are discussed with you.

Kids Dentistry

Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) works equally well for adults and kids to help reduce anxiety about dental treatment. It is a colourless, odourless gas supplied by a mask over your nose that you simply breath in to work quickly to reduce your anxiety. The effects also wear off very quickly and enable you to be able to drive home after your appointment.

Preventative Dental Care
At Jamestown Dental we have a strong belief in providing preventive treatments. We believe in healthy teeth for life and where possible preventing dental disease.
We achieve this through a strong emphasis on oral hygiene by improving your brushing and flossing techniques and using the right products for your mouth. We recommend brushing twice a day with a fluoridated toothpaste and interdental cleaning with floss or interdental brushes. Our oral health therapist and dentists are happy to discuss the best ways to take care of your teeth.
Fluoride helps to prevent dental decay. The World Health Organisation and Australia Dental Association support the use of fluoridated water and toothpaste to help prevent dental decay. “it gives your teeth extra strength when they’re developing so they’re better able to resist the bacterial acid that causes tooth decay and it slows the growth of bacteria in your mouth known as plaque which leads to tooth decay” ADA.
We are able to provide topical fluoride treatments which help to reduce your risk of decay. This is especially important for those with non-fluoridated water.
Fissure sealants are a tooth coloured plastic coating that are applied to the deep grooves on back teeth which are more prone to decay. These will “seal” over the grooves to make the surface smoother and easier to clean and help to prevent decay at these sites.
In our sports-active community, tooth injuries can be a risk to our dental health. We recommend wearing a custom fit mouthguard to prevent dental injuries whilst playing contact sports such as football, hockey and boxing. However we also see a number of injuries from non-contact sports such as netball, basketball and cricket and some people may consider wearing a mouthguard when playing these sports as well.
For more information on what to do if dental trauma occurs see the ADA website.

Periodontal and gum treatment
Healthy gums are imperative to good oral health. Gums are the foundation of your mouth and provide a strong environment for healthy teeth.
Gum disease has been associated with other health problems including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, pre-term birth. Maintaining good oral health helps to maintain good general health.
Look out for signs of gums disease such as bleeding gums (especially when brushing), redness, swelling of gums, loose teeth, bad breath and receding gums.

Replacement of missing teeth implants, bridges and dentures
Our teeth play an important role for many daily functions including our appearance, speaking and eating. When they are missing, this function can be affected and reduce our quality or life and self-confidence. Modern dentistry provides multiple options to replace missing teeth.
- Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple missing teeth. A titanium screw is placed into the jaw bone and a prosthetic crown is built onto this.
- A bridge is a prosthetic tooth which is cemented to adjacent teeth to replace a missing tooth.
- Dentures can be made to replace some missing teeth (partial dentures) or a full arch of missing teeth (full dentures). They can be made of acrylic resin or cobalt chrome metal and are custom designed to your mouth to appear like natural teeth.
To see which options are best suited to replacing your missing tooth please make a time to visit one of our dentists.

Cosmetic dental treatment
Modern dentistry offers a variety of ways to improve the appearance of your smile. We can alter the shape, size and colour of existing teeth or replace any missing teeth.
This can be achieved with veneers, crowns, bridges implants or whitening your teeth. Everyone’s needs and budget is different and our team of dentists are happy to discuss a variety of treatment options with you to help achieve the smile you want.

Tooth whitening
Are your teeth looking a little yellow? Teeth can discolour over time especially with coffee, tea and red wine in our diets. Many people whiten and brighten their smile with dental bleaching which helps to improve their overall appearance and gives a confident smile.
We offer take home whitening kits which allows you to bleach your teeth at a time that suits you. We make customised trays to fit your teeth and provide you with ZOOM bleaching gel to lighten your teeth. We offer a range of products which can be used overnight while you sleep or in as little as 30 minutes.
We also offer an “in chair” ZOOM whitening treatment which allows for a faster whitening result. This is done under the supervision of our dentist or dental therapist with the Philips Zoom LED light to help you safely reach a brighter, whiter smile in less time.
Please feel free to make a time to come in and chat to our friendly dental team to decide which process is most suited to you.
